Thanks for pointing out the sites that are down , I noticed the anisearch one myself but didn't want that one taken down for what is prob a temp down ( tho that is looking less likely by the day ) I'm not sure when the next Nav update will be but I hope it will be soon (I'll talk to Nidas , I think he's gonna update soon) and take down the ones that are dead.

Ease of installation mostly, kareha is flatfile. That said, on-again-off-again I've been thinking of starting up a forum for Pinochan. Disclaimer time! : nothings definite, but my hope is that after I graduate I can put some time into Pinochan, with one of the improvments being a forum, probably to replace the kareha support board. So if anyone really loves kareha, speak now or forever hold your peace!

I prefer Kareha to the usual forum systems especially on low traffic boards like this one. All the threads I'm probably interested in are open already so I don't have to click through forum indexes and find threads I may or may not care about.

Now, if you're planning on expanding pinochan to be more user-interactive, that might be the way to go.

For all you Shimmie admins out there, I've created two new themes for Shimmie based off of the default themes. The first (and the coolest one) is called "Chameleon" and is just the default skin with 7 user-selectable color schemes: http://files.sosguy.net/shimmie/chameleon/ and the second is called New Danbooru Theme and it changes the header and footer of the Danbooru theme to make 'em look more like Danbooru looks today: http://files.sosguy.net/shimmie/new_danbooru_theme/

I've released the themes to the public so feel free to do whatever you want with 'em. Feedback would be awesome, too.

Another update for shimmie admins:
Suppose you're like me, and you don't have a way to get the Akismet spam protection working because your host blocks you from connecting to outside IPs via PHP, or suppose you're just lazy and get a lot of comment spam. I'm working on a way to fix that at the moment with my big huge spam banlist. I acquired a list of bad IP's from http://www.stopforumspam.com/ , which I've converted into a 17,000+ line IP ban table insert SQL. It's a beast of a thing, this file. Don't even try inserting it via PHPMyAdmin as it'll timeout or exceed memory (or so it seems).

I'm going to try and create an installer PHP script that'll process this file and avoid timeouts by only doing a few lines at a time in the future, but I'm sure this file will be of use to at least some of you right now. You need the IP bans plugin turned on before trying to insert this file.

If anyone knows of a good way of processing this massive file, feel free to help me out with this endeavor!

I like the twitter feed, but I have an idea: it'd be great if all the featured images were added to an RSS feed containing the date posted, the image source, and the image URL, and then use a program such as http://twitterfeed.com/ to go and automatically post to twitter under the overbooru account. It would save you the trouble of updating manually, but, of course, it would mean that an RSS feed system would need to be created (and that would mean the image of the day page would probably be turned into a dynamic page and so on..)

As well, if there was an RSS feed of all the featured images, though, you could have a script like the random image script on Shimmie that would display the featured image of the day and people could make it a sort of dynamic desktop wallpaper :)

I use the Twitter system I described above myself to show the last 2 images uploaded every 2 hours on my booru (for a live example, follow the link in my username).

I am not the main person in control of the site Nidas is so I couldn't do it personally (I don't think , 4am can't think whether it would or not) but I think it may bit a little complicated for a once-a-day image , would be really worth it if it was more of a active (like your once every 2 hours), I don't really know ^^;;

I will talk to Nidas about the idea and hopefully alert him to this (or he will find this on his own before probably) and see what he thinks about this.
